“For loved ones who lack a green thumb, but are still eager to jump on the houseplant bandwagon, this new pop-up volume makes for the perfect gift. Inspired by a surge in online discussions of indoor gardening, photographer Daniel Gordon has cut up found imagery of houseplants to create sculptural collages, mixing realistic and fantastical colors for a playful effect. These have been transformed into six intricate pop-ups by the award-winning paper engineer Simon Arizpe. The results are joyful, spectacular and sturdier than the hardiest perennial.”
-TF Chan, Commissioning Editor, Wallpaper Magazine
“This highly collectible, limited-edition pop-up book is a work of art in itself, rendering Daniel Gordon’s sculptural forms into a new layer of materiality and animating them in Simon Arizpe’s pop-up performance. The book consists of six works in pop-up form, some featuring simple plants, others unfolding more elaborate tableaux.”

"If it's in a word or it's in a book, you can't escape the Babadook" Is the first line of the chilling pop-up book at the center of the critcally aclamied 2014 Australian horror film.
After the success of the film I was approached by the creators to help design a working pop-up book to be sold to the public based on the book used in the film.
Working closely with the Director Jennifer Kent, Illustrator Alex Juhasz, and Producer Kristina Ceyton, we tell the rest of the story of the Babadook in the 25 page pop-up terror.

"Paper engineer Simon Arizpe has produced magnificent creations that extend the boundaries of what a pop-up book can be expected to contain. He has shaped Rahmanian’s images into objects, sharp to the touch and vividly fragile. The result draws attention to the book as object. In a culture of mass-produced reading, Zahhak demands care, attention, and protection." -The New York Journal of Books
Zakkah: The Legend of the Serpent King is base on one of the stories in a 1,000 year old Persian epic poem called The Shahnameh. Zahhak tells the story of the rise of the evil Serpent King, Zahhak, and his legendary battle with the young prince Freydun.
In collaboration with designer Hamid Rahmanian this unique version of a classic tale tells the story of love, betrayal, dragon armies and enchanted castles, captured in this 9 page pop-up book.

In 2014 I partnered with designer Grisha Enikolopov to create a floating hotel room in Rockaway, New York. As part of the Boggsville Boatel series we used reclaimed and recycled materials to create a unique space for visitors to stay nestled in the urban wilderness of Jamaica Bay.
While working with the Sabuda Brand I helped design and engineer a limited edition interactive pop-up phone box for Google-Motorola. Working with illustrator Jon Klassen, we created a one of a kind user experience.
